Did you know....Waterbeds offer important benefits - total body and back support, minimal surface pressure for greater comfort, a genuinely hygienic surface, a controllable sleeping temperature and good durability. When you lie on a waterbed the water displaces to contour to your shape. Whether you are heavy or light it immediately adjusts to provide total body support. A waterbed provides the best support your back can get. The pressure reduced comfort of a waterbed minimises the need to toss and turn while you are sleeping. Research has shown that people fall asleep faster on a waterbed. The support, comfort and warmth all contribute to better health and a more relaxed state of mind. A king size (6') softsided waterbed weighs about the same as 6 adults. You don't need to change the water unless you move the bed. A waterbed is warmed to your skin temperature by a specially designed, thermostatically controlled heater. Waterbeds are highly recommended for asthma and allergy sufferers because the water-filled mattress cannot absorb dust or bacteria. They are easily cleaned and the removable, washable covers can be laundered free of the irritating house dust mite. The gentle, even support and warmth of a waterbed is particularly beneficial to those suffering from arthritis or rheumatism. Caring for your waterbedWaterbed conditioner keeps the water fresh by repressing the growth of bacteria, reduces air bubble formation and helps lubricate and protect the inner vinyl. Add one bottle to your mattress every six months (conditioner works for a limited period of time). Large mattresses, and those containing a thick layer of wave reduction fibre, will benefit from the addition of two bottles every six months. Gently agitate the water to disperse conditioner throughout the mattress. A vinyl mattress is very hygienic. You can use a small brush attachment to vacuum dead skin from the mattress and safety liner but be careful not to catch the vinyl. Used regularly, waterbed vinyl cleaner helps slow the ageing process that causes waterbed vinyl to stiffen and crack. Waterbed vinyl cleaner is formulated specifically for soft vinyl. Some cleaners contain ammonia, which is harmful to soft vinyl. Once you have cleaned the mattress surface with vinyl cleaner, apply a second coating to all corner and horizontal seams plus any deep creases on the side of your mattress. Wipe the safety liner too. Body perspiration, oils, many cosmetics (hairsprays, moisturisers, creams...) can pass through the sheet and mattress protector and collect on the mattress vinyl. If the mattress is not cleaned on a regular basis, these substances can cause serious damage to the vinyl, which results in a shorter life expectancy. Extract all air bubbles from your mattress. Set the thermostat at your personal comfort level (usually 27-28 degrees C). If you adjust the temperature, remember to allow up to 24 hours for the change in setting to become effective. It should not be necessary to adjust the temperature for the seasons. Use a good quality mattress protector to cover your mattress. Launder it regularly with your other bedding. If you need to store your mattress, follow these instructions from the British Waterbed Company: after draining the bed, add back 8oz of conditioner mixed with a gallon of water. Keep the mattress in a clean, dry storage area that remains between 10-20 C. Protect the mattress from sunlight and sharp objects. |
